FutureLearn is Europes leading e-learning platform and offers a diverse selection of courses, programs and degrees from over 100 renowned universities, cultural institutions and businesses from around the world. Founded in 2012 the platform has provided access to education for over 15 million learners globally.

Within my role I apply advanced analytics and machine learning to provide insight and data products with the aim to drive the direction of the business. I also provide support for data analytics projects occurring across the business.

Undertaken projects within my role:

- Development of recommendation engines for personalised marketing (content, collaborative, hybrid).
- Predictive forecasting models for key performance metrics and demand based on time series data and anomaly detection (SARIMA, Prophet).
- Collaboration on a hierarchical clustering project for behaviour based segmentation.
- Price modelling (Cohort analysis, Retention modelling, CLV, Portfolio analysis and prediction).
- A/B experiment design for commercial platform testing.
- Support of analytical needs across business sectors (Periscope - PostgreSQL).
- Development of an end-to-end neural network based predictive model on AWS (working with data engineers).

Data Scientist Placement (Vessel Performance Specialist) - BMT Smart

BMT SMART offers a comprehensive suite of products and services to support marine ship owners, operators and charterers to reduce their fuel costs and improve the efficiency of their fleet.

Working in a data science role making use of machine learning and neural networks to optimally predict fuel consumption of commercial marine vessels based upon high temporal resolution data regarding the status of the ship and forecasted weather conditions. Working towards a commercial pipeline written into AWS infrastructure. Exploration for methodologies to interpret the confidence of prediction and ability to automate model switching based upon the task.

Experience of Pandas, Scikit-learn, Tensorflow, Keras, genetic algorithms (for neural network architecture optimisation), time series analysis, AWS pipeline development (Sagemaker), working on a commercial data-driven product, familiarity with a sprint/scrum working environment and insight into the commercial marine industry.
